Kickoff Women Veterans Day 2024 at our International Trade Breakfast featuring Josie Orosco.

This year, VWEC will kickoff Women Veterans Day with our International Trade Breakfast featuring Josie Orosco, SW Chapter, Executive Director, United States Mexico Chamber of Commerce.

With launch of the VWEC’s International Trade Cohort, exclusively for Veteran Women Entrepreneurs, designed to empower women veteran entrepreneurs to seize global opportunities and expand their businesses internationally. Through a comprehensive program encompassing monthly training, one-on-one mentoring, and access to personalized international trade guidance, VWEC will ensure selected participants have access to the necessary providers and support to effectively navigate the complexities of international trade.

Now more than ever is the time to support Veteran Women Entrepreneur toward the exploration of new international markets. In a 2022 report by the International Trade Council titled "Women in International Trade," highlighted that women are increasingly asserting themselves in the realm of international trade, challenging stereotypes, and contributing significantly to global economies. Entrepreneurship offers a vital avenue for women in trade, with women-owned businesses playing a pivotal role in driving economic growth and job creation.

Moreover, a study commissioned by the Office of International Trade (OIT) found that “minority and women-owned firms over-index in selling abroad, emphasizing the importance of supporting and empowering women entrepreneurs in international trade endeavors.” With over 95 percent of the world's consumers residing outside the United States, international sales present a significant growth opportunity for small businesses.

Josie Orosco knows the challenges experienced by women seeking opportunities in international trade and has worked progressively to open doors and create a pathway to success for all.

Josie Orosco, SW Chapter, Executive Director

United States Mexico Chamber of Commerce

Josie Orosco has been the Southwest Chapter, Executive Director, for United States Mexico Chamber of Commerce in Dallas since 2004. One of her events brought 26 Mayors from Mexico to Dallas which was a historical moment in time and her Kickoff Speaker was Guanajuato Governor Miguel Marquez.

Josie is in contact with international chambers, international companies, governors, and ministers of economic development of Mexico on projects for the USMCA such as Mexico’s Manufacturing Alternative and the North American Working Group.

As Executive Director she has had the privilege of meeting President Uribe of Chile and the following Presidents of Mexico thru Annual Chamber events in Washington and Mexico: President Vincente Fox, Felipe Calderon, Enrique Pena Nieto and Carlos Salinas De Gortari, who signed the NAFTA Agreement, which is now the USMCA Agreement.

Honoring National Military Appreciation Month - Realize Your Vision Lunch & Learn

Join us!

As part of our Envision the Future: Realize Your Vision Series . We are thrilled to invite you to our first quarterly Realize Your Vision Lunch & Learn for May in honor of National Military Appreciation Month.

These gatherings provide attendees with invaluable opportunities to network, celebrate achievements, and be inspired!

According to Merriam-Webster, vision is defined as, “the act of power of imagination.”

A vision is a way to answer the “why” for your business. It gives reason to your strategies that align with your actions, choices, hopes, and desires. Giving your daily activities meaning and purpose.

Having a vision gives purpose to your goals and empowers you to create a roadmap forward.

What are you imagining for your business? What are you doing to turn your dreams into reality? Join us on a journey toward realizing your vision as we kickoff our first Lunch & Learn with this quarter's featured speaker Erica Dobbs, President & CEO, Dobbs Defense Solutions.

Erica's leadership and her company's impact have received widespread recognition, evidenced by accolades such as the 2020 G2Xchange Women in Leadership Award, the Entrepreneurial Women of Impact 2023, and inclusion among The Daily Record's Veterans in Business and Law Honorees of 2023. Further honoring her contributions, she has been awarded a Governor's Citation for National Women Veteran Day. Additionally, her exemplary contributions have led to her nomination for the SBA Veteran Person of the Year and inclusion in Maryland’s Top 100 Women.

Erica Dobbs' journey is more than a narrative of personal and professional achievement; it is a compelling story of how military discipline, corporate innovation, cybersecurity expertise, and a deep-rooted commitment to people and community service can converge to create lasting impact.

In Honor of National Military Appreciation Month, VWEC releases our new survey -- HerVoice: Empowering Veteran Women Entrepreneurs. Open through the month of May.

To Our Sisters-in-Arms: We're Listening!

Background:

Veteran women entrepreneurs play a pivotal role in our business landscape, driving innovation, economic growth, and employment opportunities. Despite your invaluable contributions, we know you often encounter unique obstacles on your path to success. To better understand and address these challenges, we are conducting a targeted survey aimed specifically at you—veteran women business owners.

Purpose:

The HerVoice survey seeks to glean insights into your experiences, needs, and aspirations of entrepreneurs. By delving into your challenges and resource requirements, we will be armed with the data to craft tailored initiatives and programs to bolster your success.

Specifically, the survey aims to:

Identify Barriers: Illuminating the primary challenges faced by veteran women entrepreneurs.

Access to Resources: Evaluating the availability of essential resources such as capital, training, and knowledge/access to contracting opportunities.

Inform Policy and Programs: Advocating for targeted policies and programs that address the unique needs of veteran women entrepreneurs.

Foster Collaborations: Facilitating strategic partnerships to enhance support networks for veteran women entrepreneurs.

Benefits of Participation - Influence Change, Access Resources, Network, Visibility, Recognition and Community Empowerment:

Your voice can directly impact the development of policies and programs supporting the entrepreneur ecosystem for veteran women owned businesses.

Your voice will provide insight that can guide the creation of tailored initiatives to address identified gaps in services and support.

Your voice creates a community of shared experiences, and the opportunity to connect with peers, experts, and support organizations across the nation.

Your voice will aid in raising awareness of the true impact of veteran women owned businesses and create enhanced opportunities to highlight your contributions.

Your voice contributes to amplifying our narrative, advocating for relevant resources, and driving positive change within the veteran women entrepreneur community.

The HerVoice survey presents a unique opportunity to shape the future of support and enhance our entrepreneur ecosystem. We encourage all veteran women entrepreneurs to let your voice be heard and join us in forging a more inclusive and supportive environment for your entrepreneur journey.

Statistical data underscores the significance of veteran women entrepreneurs. With approximately 2.05 million women veterans in the United States, comprising nearly 10% of the total veteran population, and an estimated 15.2% of all veteran-owned businesses being women-owned, generating billions in annual revenue, the impact of veteran women entrepreneurs cannot be overstated.

You’re invited to VWEC's International Trade Cohort Webinar: Unlocking Opportunities for Women Veteran Entrepreneurs

🎉Exciting invite for women veteran entrepreneurs - join us for an exclusive international trade opportunity! 🌍

VWEC is excited to invite you to the launch of our International Trade Cohort during an information webinar scheduled for Wednesday, April 24th from 1:00-2:30PM CST. Register

Background:

The VWEC International Trade Cohort aims to empower women veteran entrepreneurs to seize global opportunities and expand their businesses internationally. Through a comprehensive program encompassing monthly training, one-on-one mentoring, and personalized international trade guidance, VWEC will ensure selected participants have access to the necessary providers, tools, and support to navigate the complexities of international trade.

Statistics:

In a 2022 report by the International Trade Council titled "Women in International Trade," it was highlighted that women are increasingly asserting themselves in the realm of international trade, challenging stereotypes, and contributing significantly to global economies. Entrepreneurship offers a vital avenue for women in trade, with women-owned businesses playing a pivotal role in driving economic growth and job creation.

Research indicates that companies engaged in international trade tend to employ more women, pay them higher wages, and offer better benefits and job security. Furthermore, trade has the potential to decrease inequality and expand women's access to skills and education, thereby fostering sustainable and inclusive trade practices.

A study commissioned by the Office of International Trade (OIT) found that minority and women-owned firms over-index in selling abroad, emphasizing the importance of supporting and empowering women entrepreneurs in international trade endeavors. With over 95 percent of the world's consumers residing outside the United States, international sales present a significant growth opportunity for small businesses.
